Unlike buses, the subway doesn't share the road with other cars; it instead travels on its own special tracks that run below the city. The stations also have signs that help people know where they are in the city and where the subway is heading next. The subway station also plays music whenever the subway arrives to let people know when it has arrived.
Last but not least, many people walk to get where they need to go. Seoul has a lot of sidewalks, so it's very easy to walk anywhere as long as it's not super far. There are many intersections where it's safe for people to cross busy roads, as well as ways to go over or under the street.
For all of the ways to travel, Koreans use digital maps on their phone, called Kakao or NAVER. These apps are made specifically to be used in Korea. They can tell you how far to walk, where to go and even when the buses/subway train arrives. If you or your parents have ever used Google Maps in America, it won't actually work in Korea.
I love using the buses and the subway because it makes me feel like I'm on an adventure. They are very safe, and they do a great job of getting me where I need to go. I also like how clean and quiet buses and subways are. I was very surprised by how easy it was to use transportation, even though I don't speak Korean. All announcements made on buses and subways are spoken in both English and Korean, so I don't need to worry about not understanding anything. I also like how it allows me to travel long distances so that I can get to even faraway places.
My favorite method to get around is walking because it's free, good for the environment and it gives me a chance to explore.
