In the Catholic Church, a child's First Communion is special because it shows they are growing in their religious group and getting closer to God.
Both of these traditions are not about the physical surroundings but instead about a special feeling of unity. When I joined the Costa Rican citizens for the abolishment celebration and the children for their First Communion, I felt a strong sense of community. Being part of these important celebrations in their culture made me feel connected with everyone around me.
