There are many different traditions and celebrations surrounding Christmas that are celebrated throughout the month. Many of the celebrations connect back to the Catholic faith but are celebrated differently in each region of the country. For example, in Medellín, el Día de las Velitas coincides with a big parade that is held in the center of the city, as well as the lighting of the alumbrados, a large installation of lights along the river, río de Medellín.
