Learning to Live in a New Community

Now, having spent almost half a year here, I’ve learned to let go of some of the pressure that I have been conditioned to put on myself with regard to work. This has been the most rewarding piece of Greek culture that I have picked up.

Of course, there have been many other experiences which have given me insights into how I might integrate myself within my new community. For instance, I am getting to know how my Greek students spend their time outside school and volunteering with a local nonprofit (both of which I’ll write about later)! While there are ups and downs in learning how to live in an entirely new culture, the process has taught me much about Greece, about my own background, about myself, and about my values. I am excited to continue this process!
