As I’m sitting down to write this—the final weekly update I’ll be sharing with you all—I’m in the middle of quite the rare event: a snow day in Greece! Although the winters are generally mild here, sometimes the temperatures drop and some snow falls: this is precisely what happened over the weekend. I’m happy to report that the excitement for school being canceled is as strong for us teachers as it is for students. In this newfound free time, I have thought a lot about how I want to end this journey with you all.
It has been a wonderful few weeks for me, using this space to share some of my knowledge with you and to process my experiences and discoveries in an intentional, reflective way. I hope that—whether it’s some basic Greek vocabulary or a stronger understanding of St. Nicholas and orthodox Christmas—you feel that you will carry something new forward from this experience. But if you don’t have that something yet, I have one more thing that I hope will stick.
There is an old cliché I’m sure you’ve all heard before: “A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.” When I was your age, I don’t think I’d have ever imagined myself where I am right now, and so I want to push you all to imagine big things for your futures.
