Meet the Black Spiny-Tailed Iguana of Costa Rica

Introduction:

¡ Hola clase ! (Hello class!) How many of you love animals? What about insects, like ants, spiders and bees? If you said yes to both of these questions, you are just like me! I love all animals. Today, I get to show you a really cool animal I found on the beach at Jaco, in Costa Rica. This animal is known as the black spiny-tailed iguana, which locals refer to as "garrobo."

What does this creature or plant look like?:

The black spiny-tailed iguana is very long. You can't even see the full tail in this photo, that's how long it is! An adult male can grow up to 4 feet long. It might be almost as long as you! The black spiny-tailed iguana is black, brown and grey. It also has spines all the way down its back and tail. These characteristics explain how the iguana got its name: black, for its black bands, and spiny-tailedm since there are spines down its tail! Also, if you look at its claws, you can see it has super sharp nails.

How did I feel when I saw it?:

At first, my friend saw it when he was walking down the beach. He ran back to tell me, but I didn't believe him. I followed him to this tree and there the iguana was. I was so shocked and fascinated by it. In Las Vegas, we have lizards but never ones this big! We even spotted a baby iguana on another tree right next to it.
