This vehicle is likely the most practical way to get around Patzún due to its small size and ability to squeeze through tight spaces. Stuck in traffic? A tuc tuc can often maneuver through congested (crowded) areas, making sure you get to your destination in good time.
Wondering what a tuc tuc is? It's a three-wheeled vehicle that can carry up to five people. It features three seats in the back and two in the front with the driver. The two seats in the front can be quite small, so you might find yourself partially hanging off the seat. I've been inside some tuc tucs without doors. In Patzún, they have fully functional doors made of thick leather, but only the driver can open them from the inside.
When I asked a few locals their favorite way to travel, everyone mentioned the tuc tuc. Each said it's the best option if you want to ride alone and request that the driver drop you off directly at your doorstep. Many people have saved their favorite tuc tuc driver's contact information on their phones, making it easy to call and catch a ride. For many, it's all about comfort and security. You don't have to share with a stranger. You can hire a tuc tuc for an affordable five quetzales, or eight quetzales if there are two of you.
