Traveler Bio

¡¡Hola! My name is Darby Hopson and I am 28 years old. I grew up in a very small town (with a population of only 200 people!) called Bethpage in the countryside of Tennessee. Growing up, I loved spending time with my siblings, drawing, reading books, playing board games, camping, and getting into other adventures outside on our rural property. After finishing high school, I went to college at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville where I studied nursing for two years before deciding to change career directions and switch majors. I graduated in 2018 with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration and again in 2020 with a master´s degree in accounting.

After graduate school, I moved to Washington, D.C. to work as a business risk consultant where I was exposed to all kinds of businesses and their respective operating processes. I worked with local counties, parks, recreation departments, water and sewer authorities, and non-profit organizations to help improve their operations by eliminating financial, security, and operational risks.

After 3 years of working in Washington, D.C., I decided to apply my experience and skills towards a new goal - volunteering with the U.S. Peace Corps in the community economic development program to help eradicate poverty in rural communities in Peru. I currently live in Molinopampa, Peru in the northern part of the country. I am excited to share my journey with you and get to know more about your interests and curiosities about life in another country!

Peace Corps Volunteers like me live and work side by side with community members around the world, collaborating on locally prioritized projects, building relationships, exchanging cultures and knowledge, and helping transform lives for generations. Learn more by clicking here.
