What main languages are spoken here?:

In Kyoto, people primarily speak the Kyoto dialect of Japanese, a branch of the broader Kansai dialect. Even within the Kansai region, you can hear differences in grammar, vocabulary, and, especially, intonation—Kyoto speech differs from Osaka speech, which differs again from Hyogo speech. The list goes on...
English is also spoken here, but not widely. I’ve met some Japanese people who are fluent, though most either speak a little English or none at all.

What type of money is used here?:

The Japanese currency is the yen, which includes a variety of paper bills and coins. Isn't Japanese money pretty?

How much does a bottle of water cost?:

It depends on the brand, but usually less than 200 yen. I buy mineral water from Lifefit Gym for 110 yen.
