Being in Barcelona has taught me so much about cultural differences, language barriers and myself.

When I moved to Spain, I was ready to emerge myself in a new culture. From the food, holidays and dances to the transportation, safety and the language barrier, my life in Spain is very different from my life in the United States.

The language barrier is the most evident culture shock. My host mom here does not speak English, and before arriving in Spain, I had not been practicing my Spanish each day nor even each week. In Spain, it is necessary for me to speak Spanish every day because I need to communicate with my host mom and because all of my classes here are taught in Spanish.
