Here, most people farm for sustenance, meaning we grow what we eat. In West Africa, we don’t have grocery stores to buy food. We eat based on what we and our neighbors grow on the land and how good the harvest is. We hope for good rains and fresh winds. It is a tropical environment in my part of Togo, so the foods we grow must be able to handle hotter and more humid weather. Because of this, our food is much simpler, but the taste is amazing and it’s food you can’t find anywhere else in the world.
