El Gran Derbi

Why does the community have this tradition?:

Given how much they care about soccer and how this game is against their biggest rival, it makes sense that this is a day where, in a way, the whole city seems to stop for a minute. Everyone is glued to the game. People here like soccer so much they have it as a part of their life, scheduling their time around it to either go watch it in the stadium or go watch it at a tapas bar. I tried getting tickets to go to the game, but due to the high demand for this game, I was unable to go watch it in person. This was not such a huge dissapointment since the "Derbi de Sevilla" is everywhere in Seville. I ended up watching the game at a Sevilla FC themed tapas restaurant very close to where I live, and also very close to the Sevilla FC stadium, so it was filled with people wearing the Sevilla jersey.

Is this tradition connected to its environment? How?:

This tradition is not specifically connected to the environment, but it is attached to culture and daily life here. This is a match that is lived in the entire city like no other, with people wearing their team's colors with pride and making friendly banter with people from the other team. It is a really nice cultural experience that I am happy to have been able to witness.
