Goodbye for now!

I knew there was so much I was going to have to learn. I didn't know how or where I would make friends. I didn't know how I would adjust to the climate or find an apartment. I didn't know if I would be happy.

But looking back, almost ten months later, I'm the happiest I've ever been. It is amazing to see how much I've been able to learn and grow because I pushed myself to do something scary. I've made amazing friends from all over the world, learned to speak and read basic Vietnamese, deepened my interest in public transportation, and had many cool (and sometimes bizarre) experiences. (I never really adjusted to the climate though). Over the last year, I've done so many amazing things I wouldn't have been able to try if I hadn't been brave and pushed myself to move abroad. I have been able to visit the largest cave system in the world with my little sister, ride motorbikes through the remote region of Hà Giang, practice my Vietnamese at the local markets, play rugby, get certified to scuba dive in Thailand and try so many new foods. Living abroad taught me to be more confident, brave, and open-minded, and I am so grateful to have had this opportunity.

As you go forward into middle school, don't be afraid to say yes to new experiences, new foods and new places. The world is huge, but if there is one thing I can say with confidence: most people are kind, most places are interesting and there is always more to explore.
