The biggest threat to the common house gecko is tourists and people who don't understand them. While most Vietnamese people happily accept when geckos are spotted in their homes, allowing them to eat the mosquitos that are a constant annoyance in Southeast Asia, visitors are more likely to be frightened. Hotels and resorts often try to kill or relocate geckos to avoid tourist frustrations. While geckos are still able to thrive despite this threat, it demonstrates a need for more education for visitors to Vietnam.
