Prague has one of the best public transportation systems in the world! I can easily get around town by taking the metro (underground high-speed train), trams (above-ground, slower trains) or buses, all of which run all day, every day, and can get you anywhere in the city. In fact, most people in Prague do not own a car because it is faster to take public transit than to drive! Europe has an amazing railroad network, which makes traveling in the Czech Republic and to other countries extremely fast, cheap and accessible. Living here has made me realize, it would be really cool if America had more trains, trams and buses!
I took a trip with my Art, Architecture and Spiritual Values in Central Europe class to the famous St. Nicholas Church. Located in Prague, the baroque church was built between 1709 and 1755. (Popular during the 1600s and 1700s, the baroque was a European art style characterized by ornate details and a sense of drama and movement.) The church is known for its large dome, beautiful painting, marble statues, stunning altarpiece and pipe organ, which Wolfgang Mozart (the most famous composer of all time) loved to play. I am still in shock that I live in the same city as such beautiful buildings.
