Dia Dhuit agus Fáilte! Hello and welcome! My name is Elizabeth (Liz) Niemiec and I grew up in Patchogue, New York. I am 22 years old and I have just entered my final year of undergraduate studies at Northeastern University, which is situated in Boston, MA. I am studying Chemical Engineering and Biochemistry with a minor in Data Science. Beginning in July, I have been venturing on an unforgettable journey in Ireland, where I have been given the incredible opportunity of completing a co-op, or six-month-long internship, at CÚRAM SFI Research Centre for Medical Devices at the University of Galway.
Through my internship, I am gaining hands-on experience by working on a project that seeks to develop a 3D cell spheroid model to better understand the characteristics and drug interactions of breast cancer tumors. After graduating, I hope to continue my education in a graduate program before beginning my career in the biomaterial and medical device industry.
This is my first experience abroad, and I am enjoying daily life in a new country. Beyond the workday, I love exploring the breathtaking landscapes and quaint villages of Ireland, as well as learning more about the rich history and charming culture here. From the fierce cliff sides of the western coast to the gentle rolling hills of the east, I cannot wait to share with you all of the beauty that I encounter on this lovely island!
