The weather is getting colder! Right now, it’s negative one degree Fahrenheit. The high today is five degrees, and the low is -15 degrees. When I go outside, I need to wear so many layers: two pairs of socks, thermal pants, jeans, snow pants, a thermal shirt, a sweater, a jacket, boots, a scarf, a hat and a pair of gloves.
This week I saw so many horses! Mongolia celebrated Chinggis (Genghis) Khan’s birthday on Friday, so the entire country had the day off. With the long weekend, I traveled to his birthplace, which has been renamed Chinggis City. There, they were hosting the Winter Horse Festival. It featured all kinds of events: fastest-rider races, horse-lassoing competitions, wild-horse-taming demonstrations and even a contest for the best horse accessories. I also saw camels, ponies, hunting dogs, eagles and cows. It was such an interesting experience!
