The filling is prepared by cutting strawberries and cooking them in sugar. The dough circles are filled with a spoonful of strawberries. Then, the edges of the dough are pressed together with a fork. Finally, they are boiled. It was very exciting to see them being made fresh when I ordered them!
This food is very traditional to Poland. Pierogi have been made in Poland for hundreds of years. They used to be served for certain holidays and different fillings were used for each holiday. It is a very simple meal to prepare and many different ingredients can be used. Now, pierogi is a common meal for Polish citizens enjoyed by all ages.
