Most people in Argentina speak Spanish, or Castellano, as their first language. Some people in the Esquel region also speak Mapuzugun, the native language of the Mapuche people, and Günün a yajüch, the native language of the Günun a küna people. I speak Spanish, and am leaning to speak Mapuzugun.
The currency of Argentina is the Argentine peso. With the current official exchange rate (which is changing all of the time!), 350 pesos = one U.S. dollar. Argentine has many issues with inflation, or rising prices. Some Argentines think that to help with this, Argentina should start using the U.S. dollar as their currency.
A bottle of water costs 3,000 to 4,000 pesos. This is about one U.S. dollar!
I had delicious pasta at Don Chiquino, a historic restaurant in Esquel. I went out to dinner there with my dad and my friends Lito and Mara. My dad only speaks a little Spanish, and Lito and Mara only speak a little English, so I had to interpret for them so they could have a conversation!
