This week the weather was warm by Finland's standards. My professors have told me that normally in January, Oulu sees temperatures of about -30 degrees Celsius (-22 degrees Fahrenheit), but right now we are at about 30 degrees Fahrenheit. The sun is only out for about four hours in the day and usually rises at about 10 a.m. and sets at about 2 p.m. The days are very windy and cloudy. It has snowed quite a bit, but after a few days the snow turns to ice and the sidewalks become dangerous ice rinks. You have to be really careful walking around or you might slip!
There are not many animals in Oulu. The only animals I saw this week were many small flocks of pigeons in the city center, as well as the dogs that many citizens walk everyday. All of the dogs I saw were really big. The smallest dog I saw was a Labrador Retriever. I also saw massive dogs like the Caucasian Shepherd Dog.
