In Finland, every student is taught three languages from a young age: Finnish, Swedish and English. Finnish is the most common, but the fact that everyone speaks English has really helped me a lot. In Finnish the word Kittos means "Thank you," and to introduce yourself you can say "Hei! Mina olen ___" which means "Hi! I am (your name)".
Since Finland is part of the European Union, they use the euro. As of today, 1 euro is about $1.12
A bottle of water in a grocery store costs between 75 cents and 1.50 euros depending on the brand. That's between $0.84 and $1.67 in U.S. dollars. Luckily, tap water is very safe to drink here so I do not need to buy many bottles.
I went with a group of exchange students to a pizza place in the city this week. I was expecting to just order a normal pepperoni pizza, but instead I ended up ordering a reindeer pizza! It was just cheese, reindeer and an interesting sauce. I really do not know what the sauce was made out of, but it was actually very good. I am glad I ordered it; maybe I will go back soon and get another!
