The War Childhood Museum

This is the outside of the War Childhood Museum in Sarajevo
The objects and the stories change every year. However, this swing is one of the few objects always stays
Some of the objects and stories are funny! This one shows an orange piece that someone taped into their journal, beacuse people didn't have fresh fruit and vegetables during the war
Melika, the girl telling this story, remembers when her friends had to leave the country during the war. They gave her and her sister these teddy bears
The Museum actually began as a book, where Jasminko posted a question online asking: “What was the war childhood for you?”
He then realized that people's stories were often associated with an object, and he began collecting those too. This is a collection from Filip of wrappers and tins - he made it in the Guinness World Record Book!
By making a space for survivors to share their stories, the Museum builds peace through shared understandings of difficult pasts
