Traveler Bio

Drago mi je! Nice to meet you! My name is Julia Davies, and I was born and raised in New Jersey. I moved to Ohio, for college to study Political Science and History at Ohio State University. I enjoyed learning about faraway places, but I always felt something was missing: I wanted to actually be there. I decided to begin my travel journey in Rwanda, a small Eastern African country, where I took classes on peace, history, and language, and researched post-conflict memorialization. Living somewhere so different from home was challenging, but I learned so much that all I wanted to do was keep traveling!

Upon returning to the U.S. to finish college, I started interviewing for internships abroad. I moved again to Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, a small Eastern European country. I began an internship working with local religious communities. I also studied the Bosnian language and volunteered at a local museum recording historical artifacts.

I applied for and was accepted into the U.S. Fulbright Program to study peace, development, and security in Serbia — where I am writing to you from! Currently, I live in Belgrade, Serbia’s capital, and will begin a Master of Arts (MA) degree in a couple of weeks. I don’t know what to expect from this next year abroad, but I am so excited to share it with all of you!
