I’m so happy and grateful for the chance to share my journey of Exploring Peace in Serbia with all of you over these past weeks! Through these journal articles and two livestreams, I’ve explored topics that I think are both interesting and important for anyone working to become a better person and a peacebuilder in their daily life. We talked about how to build empathy by really trying to understand someone else’s perspective, and about stepping outside of our comfort zones to grow and challenge ourselves.
During these eight weeks, I took you along as I traveled around Eastern Europe and the Western Balkans to places like Bulgaria, Albania, Croatia, and Romania. I also shared memories of when I lived in Bosnia and Herzegovina, another country in the Western Balkans, and my time studying in Rwanda, all the way in East Africa.
I hope getting to know me and hearing about my time abroad inspires you to travel and explore the world, too. Traveling and learning about peace go hand-in-hand. Being around people with different perspectives, cultures, and languages helps you see the world in new ways. It can also make you more understanding and empathetic toward others who are different from you.
Maybe some of the lessons I’ve shared will spark ideas for your own life.
