I challenged myself to learn a new language, try new foods, live in new places and take part in traditions that were once unfamiliar to me. Because of that, I can now speak Spanish fluently, I’ve traveled to places I once only dreamed of and I’ve made amazing friends and unforgettable memories along the way!
I want you to know that you are capable of far more than you can imagine. Never forget that. When I was in elementary school (and even high school), I dreamed of learning Spanish and seeing the world. At the time, it didn’t feel possible, and I didn’t leave the country until I was over 20 years old. But I never gave up on that dream. I kept working hard, studying and taking small steps towards that dream, one day at a time.
Now, years later, I feel so lucky to work on projects I care deeply about, projects that help improve the health of people in a new country. And on top of all that, I have even been so fortunate to work alongside my sister, as an educator, to share this journey with you!
All this to say, I hope you dream big. I hope you take advantage of opportunities to learn about the world around you. I hope you wake up each day curious and ready to ask questions. There is so much to explore and enjoy. And while I may not be in your classroom learning right next to you, just know I will be making the most of the eight months I have left here in Peru, learning as much as I can along the way, too.
Thank you for everything! I wish you all the best for the rest of your school year. Be great!
