Farewell

Journal Entry:

If you ever get the chance to live in another country, take it. Even if it’s for a short vacation. It will be one of the most fulfilling experiences of your life. I can promise you that much. As you all know, I lived in England for some time as a college student. That experience was life-affirming and motivated me to try it out again. I was lucky enough to be chosen as a Princeton in Asia fellow at Northeastern University as a teacher. The past few months haven’t always been easy, there’s still a lot I need to learn, but I’ve already gained so much. Through the struggle, I’ve developed resilience and grit. After meeting so many great people, I grew to understand the true meaning of compassion. Every day I am reminded of the importance of patience. These elements of the experience have shaped me into the person I am today.

The struggle has taught me a lot about resilience and grit. The past few months haven’t been easy. From the lessons to the daily tasks, I’ve been working through numerous obstacles. Lessons take a lot of time, care and creativity to develop. They also take practice through trial and error to get right in the classroom. Every day there’s a new hurdle to overcome. Sometimes it’s things I couldn’t plan for, such as the printer not working. Other obstacles include using Chinese apps, going food shopping and receiving mail. These tasks have become a lot easier.
