Farewell Journey - New Beginnings

Keep learning, keep asking amazing questions and keep being curious about the world. You are the future.

My homestay family, Ms. Sandra and her son Arnau, have been the best. Taking me into their home, feeding me, helping me get accustomed to the culture, teaching me and inviting me along to different places were incredible acts of kindness. I’ve laughed so much with them and I really can say they have been like family. Another mom and a brother. They’ve been another big reason why I feel like a true Spaniard now. I’ve expanded my world far beyond school, and I’ve made so many meaningful connections through them. I love how people here share with one another, tend to their homes and community, always have fun and make time to relax even through stress. One of the main sentiments I’ve heard here from people is “Don’t Worry." It's helped me to calm down whenever I feel anxious and to not be so hard on myself about anything! The best ideas and moments occur when you’re calm, cool and collected, even if a situation is stressful. You are human and can only do so much. Being kind to yourself and a neighbor/classmate/stranger will always be what brings light to the world. Keep that in mind, always!

Before coming to Spain, my mom bought me a handmade bracelet that has the engraving of Joshua 1:9, which reads: “Be brave, be fearless, you are never alone.” Even though I’m so far from home, I have not felt alone once during this whole journey. That verse has been something to keep close! I’ve walked by faith and God has kept me safe and protected. I thank you guys for reading my journal entries, looking at my photos, giving me all your thoughts, feedback, questions and being a breath of fresh air to talk to.
