Fish N' Chips

I tried this fish n’ chips place called The Pier, but the fish and the batter wasn’t as crispy or tasty as the Blackheath shop. Also, the chips were a little too flimsy. Oh well.

A month ago, I visited Edinburgh, Scotland to see a friend from college, and she took me to a fish n’ chips place right on the water. At this place, they had a curry sauce that you could use to dip the fish and the chips. Total gamechanger! I loved this style! I had it with my friend Laura, in the middle of winter, sitting outside next to the harbor in Edinburgh. It was so cold, but fish n’ chips can really warm your heart.

When my family visited for Christmas, I took them to the Blackheath shop, and we all got fish n’ chips. We had different options of fish: cod, haddock and then just fish (I’m not sure what type of fish “fish” is). On top, you could put salt and vinegar. You could also have ketchup. Unless you got it to go, it was easier to eat with a knife and fork. If you used your hands, they got really oily.

We also tried the fish n’ chips at a pub (or bar in America) called the Shepherd’s Tavern. It allegedly has some of the best in London. And I must confirm that it is true; the fish is just the right amount of crispy and the chips are also crispy with the right amount of potato in each chip. And with salt and vinegar, it is just delicious.

We ate there on my Dad’s birthday, and it really made his day.

How is the food prepared?:

Fish n’ chips shops opened as early as 1860 in London, started by immigrants from Holland. Since then, thousands of shops have opened all over the United Kingdom.
