The Life of a Kid in Dubrovnik: Meet Dominik!

What chores do you have at home?:

He is a few years younger than you all, but he has learned to help pick up his own toys and set the dining table. He also makes his bed in the morning.

What jobs do your parents have?:

Dominik's mother is a hair dresser, and she also does professional make-up for people's weddings. His father works in the family business that organizes conferences in and around Dubrovnik, like the ones I went to! It takes a lot of work to make sure large events run smoothly.

What time does school start, and what time do you go home?:

He goes to kindergarten, which starts at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 12:00 p.m. He is then brought home for lunch.

How do you get to school? Are you allowed to go to school by yourself?:

Since he is still only five years old, someone must walk with him to school. We live on a busy street with lots of traffic, so it is important for him to hold his parent's or grandparent's hand while crossing the street. Once he is older, he will be able to walk to school with a group of his classmates.

Where do you eat lunch? What is your favorite food?:

It is typical for families to eat lunch together at home. People really value quality time with their families, even during the school or work week. Many people in a small town like this usually work in two shifts, where they work in the morning and can get home in 15 minutes to make lunch, then return to work in the afternoon. Dominik told me his favorite food is beef stew with mashed potatoes.
