The Life of a Kid in Dubrovnik: Meet Dominik!

What language do you speak at school? How do you say "Hello" in your language?:

Dominik and his classmates speak the Croatian language at school. They are already starting to learn English, as well. Dobar dan means "hello."

What are some common kids' names at your school?:

Some common kids' names are Luka, Marko, Ivan, Dario, Lucija, Paula, Dijana and Nikola. People are usually named after their grandparents, and names are derived from saints' names.

What subjects do you study in school, and which one is your favorite?:

Dominik told me he's having fun learning numbers and that he enjoys drawing and recess.

What is your homework like?:

He doesn't get much homework, but he likes to draw and make cards for his family.

What do you like to do after school? Do you have a favorite sport or game?:

He likes to play in our garden, especially with the gardening tools. Soccer is the most popular sport here, which he likes to play at recess with his friends. He also loves swimming and playing with his toy cars.

Who is your favorite famous person?:

Luka Modrić, our top soccer player.

What kinds of music do you listen to?:

He likes listening to recordings of the children's choir here in Dubrovnik and Oliver Dragojević, a popular singer from the 1980s through the 2010s.

What would you like to be when you grow up?:

Dominik would like to be a sea captain, a traditional job that people have here since we are on the coast. He would need to go to college and study navigation.
