Food in Brussels

Is this food connected to the local environment? How?:

Whether it's at my office or even while just walking around though, I've seen that locals make different choices. The Belgian "meat and potatoes" diet isn't sustainable daily, and I've actually met many locals who are vegetarian, which explains the ample vegetarian and vegan choices available at most restaurants. It's important to note that most of Brussels' population is not Belgian; many have immigrated here individually for jobs with the EU Commission or with their families. The food scene in Brussels truly reflects this diversity.

I was initially amazed by the many Mediterranean and Asian restaurants, but after living here and observing the city's diverse population, the plentiful family-run restaurants across the city make sense and seem to be "go-tos" for locals seeking to try other flavors. I wasn't sure how popular the different spots would be for others, but if you sit somewhere around 7:00 PM or 8:00 PM on just about any night, you'll see the crowd buildup outside of Nona's or the usual visitors filter into La Châtelain du Liban for their Lebanese food fix.
