Starting in late November, Paris decorates many streets and stores for the holiday season. Many streets are lined with lights, and malls, such as Galeries Lafayette and Chatelet have giant Christmas trees. One tradition that is very popular across the city is the Christmas Market, which has many locations. These markets are popular with tourists and locals alike, and has been going on for hundreds of years, the oldest dating back to 1570. It is likely that the annual Christmas market will be continuing for hundreds more years, bringing joy to future generations in France during the holidays.
There are many Christmas Markets throughout Paris and the wider country of France, but the one in Tuileries is the largest and liveliest of them all. The Tuileries market looks like a classic carnival in certain aspects, with large rides and games to win prizes, but there are also hundreds of tents selling all sorts of goods. From Christmas ornaments and dolls to giant blocks of cheese and nougat, the market has it all! There is also a large food section called Marche Gourmand with churros, hot cider, and coffee, along with foods from many other European countries.
