Japanese is the main language. While more and more people are learning English, it would be best to know some basic Japanese phrases to get around more easily.

What type of money is used here?:

The currency is the Japanese yen. If you need to exchange different currencies to Japanese yen, this can be done at the airport, banks or at automated money exchange booths located at major train stations and most tourist areas.

How much does a bottle of water cost?:

Water costs about $1 for a gallon at most convenience stores and $1.15 for 16 ounces at most train station vending machines.

What was the best meal this week?:

My sister is visiting me from California, so she made me a traditional Filipino dish made from mung beans.

What music did I listen to this week?:

I listened to an album of Studio Ghibli soundtrack played on traditional Japanese instruments.

What activity was the most fun this week?:

I really enjoyed going to Fujiyama Onsen. An onsen is a spa or resort built around a hot spring. It was really nice to relax in the hot water, especially with the cold weather.

What did I read this week?:

I read from English for Use in Chanoyu to help supplement my tea ceremony training.
