¡Hola, buenos días (Hello, good morning)! My name is Gavin Stockton. I am a 24-year-old Michigander from the suburbs of Grand Rapids. I grew up always spending time with my brothers and friends. We would ride our bikes, play in "secret" forts and occasionally take a trip to Lake Michigan! My younger years flew by and eventually I went to college at Michigan State University (MSU)... Go Green! I studied elementary education with an emphasis in science and minors in TESOL and Spanish.
After my bachelor's degree, I got my teacher certification at the greatest elementary school in the world, Academy of the Americas (AoA)! Here I worked with wonderful teachers and students to both learn and teach Spanish and English. AoA helped me foster a love of teaching and learning new languages and cultures. This school inspired me to continue pursuing knowledge and teaching skills from the world outside of the community I grew up in.
This inspiration drew me to the Fulbright program which I applied for and was honored to receive as an English Teaching Assitant or ETA. This program brought me to Atlacomulco, México, which is a small mountain town in the Estado de México. I cannot wait to share my journey here through THREE different secundarias (middle schools) and the subdirección (school district)! I am equally excited to hear about your journeys through this school year!
