Not only is the ocean a fun activity, but it is home to yummy foods! In Uruguay, paella (pie-aeee-uh) is very popular. It is filled to the brim with fish other seafood like mussels, shrimp, octopus, shrimp and more! All the sea creatures are fresh, so don’t be alarmed by their eyes. Brightly colored and put on top of spicy rice, this dish will fill you up in no time!
This week I listened to a lot of Rock Nacional, which is very similar to rock and roll! Every song is filled with emotion. The music always makes you want to dance wherever you are! Some of the most popular songs and artists include: Color Esperanza: Diego Torres, Gracias a La Vida: Mercedes Sosa, and Tan Lejos: No Te Va a Gustar.
This week in Uruguay I rented a bright pink bike and headed out along the coast. In Colonia, Uruguay, you can bike up to 10km of the Atlantic coastline! I road along the white sand beaches for four miles and daydreamed. Feeling like I was on an island, I rode to the Plaza de Toros. This ancient structure once had bullfights. People would come from far and wide to watch a man and a cow with large horns play a choreographed game. Be careful, those horns are sharp! This dangerous sport usually does not end well for the bull. However, Uruguay made it illegal to have bullfighting. Now, the ring has become a fun place to ride your rented bike!
