Getting To Know Rachel

But this year, in Bucaramanga, I live in a city of about one million people. Every day of the year, it is in the 70s, and it never ever snows. I work in a university with engineering professors! I help them publish articles in English by revising them, and I help them communicate with people in English speaking countries so they can more easily collaborate on projects. I miss talking about books and writing stories, but it is fun for me to learn things about engineering and to work with professors that are super smart.

In Virginia and Pennsylvania, where I have lived before, there are gorgeous mountains, but it is nothing like the mountains here in Bucaramanga! Bucaramanga is in the eastern part of Colombian, near the Venezuelan border. I live in an apartment on a big hill, and every day when I walk home from my bus stop, I have to walk up 196 stairs! I live on the 9th floor, and I have a gorgeous view of the city and all the tall buildings in Bucaramanga, and every day we get to see the sunset in the mountains. I live with one other girl who is from the United States, and with a married couple, the wife is from Bucaramanga and the husband is from France! So in our house, you can hear English, Spanish and French in the same conversation! Although I mainly speak Spanish all day, living with someone who speaks French has made me want to learn it more, and many people at the university where I work have learned French as well. Maybe we can learn some together!

I cannot wait to show you more of the sunny city of Bucaramanga, and see what our time together will bring us. Every day here something brings me a surprise and I am excited to share those surprises with you all!

See you soon (hasta pronto)!
