When you go to a new country, the first question that pops in your head is, "How will I get to where I have to go?" It can be a scary thought if you don't speak the local language, or if you just don't know how people get from one place to another. Luckily, transportation is an issue that many of us share, no matter where we come from. However, getting around in this exciting African country is still different than what many of us are used to. While some people do drive themselves to school or to work, public transportation is more common. The three main methods are walking, taking a taxi, or using Ghana's very own transportation called the "trotro."
The first way that the Ghanaian people get around is by taxi. There are many taxis and taxi stations that are located all around the city of Accra. They are a cheap and easy way to get to where you have to go. Depending on where you are heading, you can use a regular yellow taxi or a "share" taxi. A share taxi is exactly what it sounds like, a taxi that you share! A ride costs 2 cedis, which is less than 50 cents. Each share taxi goes to a different place, and you can stop any where on the road on the way there. When you arrive at a taxi station, on top of each car there will be a sign to let people know which taxi goes to their destination.
