As the year begins to slow down and winter settles in, I’ve been spending a lot of time reflecting on my experience here in Bulgaria. Soon, I will be packing my suitcase and traveling back to St. Louis for Christmas break. I am looking forward to being home again for a short time! However, a part of me wishes I could witness Christmas here.
Life here has become something I truly cherish. During my time in Bulgaria, I have visited new historical places, tried foods I had never tasted before and learned words in another language. More importantly, I formed connections with people who have changed my perspective and helped make this country feel like home. These memories will stay with me long after I leave. Bulgaria has taught me so much! There is something special about walking through town, watching the seasons change and learning how people live in a different part of the world.
This experience was made possible through the Fulbright Program, which gave me the chance not only to teach, but also to learn. Living in a new country means stepping into unfamiliar situations every day.
