Just Another Day (and Night) in a Korean High School

Introduction:

When I went to Seoul to visit my family, I interviewed my cousin’s two children. Yena is in her last year of high school, and Yesung is a first-year student at his high school. The interview was conducted in Korean, so it was a good opportunity to practice my Korean and learn a little more about life in South Korea!

What do you eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner?:

Yena: We eat various different foods for breakfast, but I really like gyeran mari (rolled omelette) and kimchi jjigae. Sometimes I like to get malatang with my friend for dinner instead of eating dinner at home. Yesung: We eat the cafeteria food for lunch, which has a different menu every day. We eat a lot of Korean food for dinner, but ramen or hamburgers are my favorite dinners.

What is your house like?:

Yesung: We live in an apartment. It’s pretty boring at home; there are a lot of older, retired people in our neighborhood.

What chores do you have at home?:

Yena: Mostly washing dishes, but whatever my mom tells me to do.

What jobs do your parents have?:

Yesung: Our mom is a kindergarten teacher, and our dad works for a real estate broker.
