After I watched Chimamanda Adichie's Ted Talk about the danger of a single story, I was amazed with her ability to speak up her mind in a way that everyone else can relate to. The part where she mentioned how political and economic power defines who get to tell the story was very interesting to me. I wanted to focus on this part but after I read Josh and Abby's journal entry I thought that it would be better to choose another powerful point to talk about. I loved how you adressed the lense of dominance that ensured America to always have the final word on many fundamental global matters. You also pointed out that Chimamanda's story is similar to that of the entire developing world and not only Africa and those who were unable to speak for themselves. You also talked about the idea of white saviors and I think that your volunteering experience is amazing especially that you made it clear you don't think of yourselves as saviors.
Also, I'm not going to talk about how the western literature and media coverage have contributed to the invention of the Orient since we talked about it before in a journal entry.
I want to talk about how I felt very connected to Chimamanda Adichie on a personal level.
