Expressing Myself Through Books, Music and Movies

I found it very easy to read a story in English, I didn't encounter any difficulties understanding the plot and I was mesmerized how images instantly created in my mind the moment I read a sentence. I finished the first book in a week and the next two books followed quickly. We finished those books by the end of that holiday and she returned to Sudan with her family. After that, other English and Arabic books quickly followed and I was discovering new writers and genres every day. First, I just read whatever I found available and then decided whether I liked it or not. Now when I think about it, I didn't have a particular favorite writer or genre so I consider myself a universal reader.Having said that, there are many books that I find close to my heart. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins is a young adult dystopian trilogy which fascinated me for its strong political messages. Katniss Everdeen, the main character, called for a rebellious movement against oppression and poverty created by an oppressive regime. The fact that a female character would lead such a movement in a situation similar to what we have in Sudan, reinforced the fact that women are able to create unprecedented change in the toughest situations. George Orwell's 1984 was a turning point in how I perceived book reading. A literary political fiction and dystopia that is "a rare work that grows more haunting as its futuristic purgatory becomes more real" quoting from GoodReads. It was so powerful that it affected my every-day vocabularies and I found myself using terms like "the big brother is watching over you" in different situations.
