Mawlid al-Nabi al-Sharif (Birth of the Prophet)

Introduction:

Mawlid al-Nabi al-Sharif or Birth of the Prophet, is the observance of the birthday of Islamic prophet Muhammad which is commemorated in Rabi' al-awwal, the third month in the Islamic calendar.

Prophet Muhammad PBUH, the founder of religion Islam, was born in 22nd of April 571 CE in Mecca in the Arabian Peninsula. He is the final prophet of God in Islam and every year in Rabi' Al-awwal, Muhammad's birthday is celebrated as a major feast throughout the Islamic world.

Opinions differed as to the origin of the Prophet's birth, some might say it was in the fourth hijri century, corresponding to 912 AD, at the era of the Fatimid Caliphate where the rulers were not loved by their prople so they tried to seduce them to gain their religious feelings, by inventing many religious holidays, including the Prophet's birth. And some historians said that it had started in Egypt in the fifth hijri century (1009 AD), and then moved in the sixth or early seventh century to Iraq, where the main objective of these celebrations was a political goal to install the rule of Bani Obaid "the ruling tribe back then".

What tradition did I learn about?:

As soon as the month of Rabi Al-Awwal begins, the public squares in different Sudanese cities are decorated with colorful chandeliers.
