Turkish is the national language of Türkiye and is the main language spoken throughout the country, including Ordu. However, on any given day, you might hear people speaking Arabic, Kurdish and of course, English. There are even other foreigners in Ordu who speak Italian, Russian, Georgian and many more!
The primary money used in Türkiye is the Turkish Lira (pronounced leer-uh). It comes in denominations of 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, and 200. There are also coins called kuruş (pronounced koo-roosh) that come in denominations of 0.01, 0.10, 0.25, 0.50, 1, and 5.
In Ordu, I can buy a bottle of water for 15 lira, which is the equivalent to 40 cents in dollars.
I actually cooked at home for most of this week, but on Tuesday, I went to a restaurant with my friend and had gözleme (pronounced go-z-le-meh). This is commonly eaten for breakfast and is similar to a quesadilla. Inside, you can find many ingredients, but my favorites are spinach and potatoes.
