Many doors opened up for me and I worked with some amazing dance instructors and students, and I choreographed my own dance piece for the first time. Shortly after, I learned that I was expecting my third child, Nailah Mahdee! I had no idea how I was going to maintain my goals in education, but I knew that I had to set an example for all women by keeping my focus to face those challenges.
After Nailah was born, I continued my studies at Laney College. With my books in my hand and baby on my back, I passed every class and graduated with honors, receiving my AA Degree in Dance. My passion for history and culture continued to grow and I wanted to know more about the world. In 2014, I decided to join the Laney College Study Abroad Program and began my travels to Cuba, where I learned about its history, culture and dance. From there, I was thirsty for more. The travel bug had bitten me in the heart and I had to continue my journey.
My first time traveling to my motherland Africa was in 2015, during which time I learned so much about myself as well as the true history of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade. From there, Ghana became my home. My first experince in Ghana inspired me to take my education to the next level. In 2017, I received my AA Degree in Anthropology, Social Science and Language Arts. In between, I continued my travels to Brazil, India and back to Ghana three more times.
Today, I'm attending San Francisco State University, working on my BA in Anthropology and minoring in Dance.
