I decided to join the Study Abroad program through San Francisco State because I wanted to get a deeper perspective on Ghanaian history, culture and lifestyle. This time, things will be different as I have btought my six-year-old daughter on this journey with me to live in Ghana for a year! I thought to myself, how exciting and scary is that?
Leaving all of my friends and family behind to pursue my passion for cultural education and dance was a hard decision, and the process wasn't easy. Many people didn't understand why living in Ghana for a year was necessary and refused to support my decision. Although that was tough, I still had great support from close friends, family and members of the community. By the time of our departure, I had received four scholarships and many donations from the community.
Nailah and I are currently living in Accra, Ghana. I'm studying Archaeology, Dance and the Twi language. Nailah is continuing her education on campus (Level 1) at the Basic Primary School.
We are so excited to share our journey with you and hope that you learn, enjoy and grow to love Ghana as much as we do!
