There are many things that define communities in Soc Trang. I've written about some of the major things like the different cultures that live here, the ways people in Soc Trang get around, some of the special foods you can find here and some local traditions. However, there are other things that keep communities here running, things like gas (for vehicles), collecting and removing trash, electricity and cleaning and then sending water to people's homes and workplaces. For this article, I am going to focus on water, specifically the water people use to drink. In Soc Trang, a very important community need right now is safe drinking water.
Do you ever drink water from the sinks in your kitchen or your bathroom at home? How about when you are at school? Do you ever drink from water fountains there? Is that water safe to drink? If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, then that is really great! If you answered "no," then you are in a similar situation to people in many places in the U.S. and around the world, where there is a lack of water for people to use, water is not safe or both. In Soc Trang and throughout Vietnam, people are dealing with both of these water issues.
