Hello, everyone!
My name is Hawa, and I am currently a senior at Barnard College studying economics. In school, you will typically find me rushing from building to building all over Columbia University's campus trying to get to my classes on time. I love catching up with my friends in the dining hall and having a laugh about about things that happened during our classes or somewhere else on campus. My favorite spot on campus is the Barnard Library, where I also work. Growing up, I was always a bookworm, so it makes sense that I naturally gravitate towards stacks of books that range from ancient histories to modern fantasies. I am also a Speaking Fellow on campus, which means that I am a peer educator and I help students tackle challenges like clarifying presentations and other speaking skills.
Coming from a low-income family and also being the first in my family to graduate high school and attend college, I knew that I needed to take on as many opportunities at college as I could. I grew up in a Gambian-American household where we also practice Islam.
