I wanted to learn about languages and other cultures. That is why I am now an International Studies major that focuses on East Asia. I also study Linguistics, which is the study of how languages are formed and work. I have combined my two favorite study areas so that some day I can help people from different countries come together, communicate and work together towards their goals. I started with learning Chinese. This language was very hard, but I loved it! Then I tried learning Japanese last summer and it was so much fun! I liked learning Spanish, but I discovered that it just wasn’t for me. Once I found the languages I liked most, even when they were hard, I had a lot of fun learning them. But as much fun as they are, and I will continue to learn them little by little, I knew that my favorite would always be Korean.
Where I live in Illinois, it is very hard to find classes to learn Korean, so I knew this was my chance to fulfill my dream of studying abroad! I applied for some scholarships to help me, and here I am! I have been living in South Korea since August, and I love it so much! I take classes at Korea University to learn all about Korean history, their relations with other countries, and the language, of course! I can’t wait to share all my adventures with you, as I learn more about the people and culture of South Korea and work on my Korean language skills along the way!
