What animals did I see this week? :

The squirrels in Berlin are red and a bit fluffier than the gray squirrels I'm used to from the East coast. I see pigeons and crows, too. Many of crows here are gray instead of black, because Berlin is the border of two species of crow, the Carrion crow and the Hooded crow. Usually I don't pay attention to birds (too much attention on the green things?) but this caught my curiosity.

What was the coolest thing I saw in nature this week?:

With all the leaves falling off the trees, the evergreen mistletoe is starting to be visible! You know Mistletoe from Christmas decorations, but did you know that it's actually a parasitic plant- that is, it attaches to a host and steals resources? Mistletoe is around all year long, but is especially distinctive in the winter because it makes these cool-looking balls of leaves, which become visible when all the other leaves of the tree are gone. I've never seen a place so overrun with mistletoe as Berlin! It's more common on the west coast of America than the East coast, but still rare.
