They have been my guides and taught me many things about local traditions and foods. My roommates taught me how to make mejillones (mussels) and other typically Galician foods.
Ferrol and the surrounding areas have a strong connections to the ocean. Ferrol is a navy town, and there are a ton of beautiful beaches nearby. At a beach called Pantín, they host an international pro surfing competition that is very famous. I've made several friends by learning how to surf, and I've also gotten to know the coastline very well as we visit different surf spots almost every weekend.
Traveling around Galicia has been pretty limited until recently due to COVID, so I am just beginning to explore outside of Ferrol. The most important thing for me when it comes to integrating myself has been being curious and expressing that curiosity to the friends I have made here. Everyone likes to share who the are and where they are from if you are willing to listen!
